With less than four days to go before National Signing Day, Texas Tech is showing no signs of slowing down the momentum that they have built up over the last several weeks. The Red Raiders added No. 23 to their 2009 recruiting class on Saturday with the commitment Carrolton (TX) Newman Smith defensive end Aundrey Barr.
"I actually did commit. I committed today," confirmed Barr, who was on an official visit to the South Plains. "I knew before I got here that I wanted to go here. It hasn't disappointed me. I realized it yesterday, actually. But I was definitely sure after I took the campus tour and everything."
Barr met with head coach Mike Leach in the afternoon and broke the news.
"Oh, he was excited," laughed Barr. "I don't know if he saw it coming."
The opportunity to play in the Big 12 was something that the 6-3, 225-pound prospect could not pass up.
"It's in the Big 12 and I actually liked the school and everything about it," said Barr. "I like all of the coaches. They're easy to get along with and they all know when it's time for business and when it's time for play."
Barr, who chose Texas Tech over offers from Air Force and New Mexico, has only played organized football for one season after mainly focusing on basketball throughout high school.
