Guiton follows up on his promise
Kenny Guiton's commit to the Buckeyes should not come as a surprise to anyone after the Aldine (Texas) Eisenhower told everyone that he planned to commit to Ohio State during his weekend visit to Columbus (Ohio).
The Buckeyes got in late on the three star quarterback but after a Thursday offer the wheels moved quickly for Ohio State and Guiton. Did the 6-foot-2, 178-pounder pull the trigger as planned?
"Oh yes, I did commit," Guiton said.
Guiton was the only recruit on campus this weekend so the 25th member of the Ohio State recruiting class had the red carpet rolled out for him and a chance to see everything that he wanted along with his father who made the trip.
"It went really well," Guiton said. "It was my first time (to Columbus) and I loved it and I had a lot of fun."
Mother Nature didn't cooperate with warm weather but at least it was not snowing over the weekend for the visit.
"It was really cold last night," Guiton joked. "It heated up to 40 (degrees on Sunday)."
Not exactly the heat of a summer in Texas but Guiton admitted that he didn't have a big problem with the Columbus weather.
Guiton's official host was Lamaar Thomas and the pair got along very well.
"I toured the campus and I got to hang out in his dorm room and I got to chill with him and a few of the players," Guiton said.
As with most players one of the highlights was the opportunity to check out the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and see the indoor practice field and more importantly the state-of-the-art weight room.
"I got to see all of that," Guiton said. "I loved all of that and words can't explain how everything was over there. It was really nice and everything was high class."
Guiton is not only an accomplished athlete but also a top-notch student in the classroom. With a 3.3 GPA and a 1340 on the SAT the academic side means a lot to the new Buckeye and having a chance to check out the Younkin Success Center was another highlight of the trip.
"I had a chance to go over to the Younkin ," Guiton said. "They showed my dad and me around and showed me what my schedule would look like academic-wise and it was cool."
The new Buckeye will graduate high school on June 5th and won't have much time until the late June report date for summer enrollees. Guiton would like to study Sports Medicine in college but mentioned that he is still exploring his options and things could change with his degree path.
With Terrelle Pryor and Joe Bauserman ahead of him on the depth chart the new Buckeye knows what his role will be with the team when he comes in and if all goes as planned Guiton will be redshirted for the 2009 season.
"I am going to come in and take the third string snaps and they say that reps are key with them," Guiton said. "I am going to come in and get a lot of reps and a lot of throws in."
