Bruce Changes Mind, Commits to UW
Gillette product Spencer Bruce visited Hattiesburg, Mississippi two weekends ago and committed to Southern Mississippi, and then decided to accept an official visit over the weekend from Dave Christensen's staff at Wyoming. Following his trip to Laramie he decommitted from USM and will sign with Cowboys on Wednesday.
The Cowboys will look at Bruce as a defensive end at Wyoming as he was considered the top division one prospect by many in the state of Wyoming. He played both sides of the ball at Campbell County High School including receiver and end.
Bruce is considered a versatile athlete who could turn out to be a bargain for the Cowboys. The 6 foot 5 high school player looks to have the right frame to fill out into a good looking D1 defensive football player.
His high school assistant coach - Cassidy Welsh who played at Southern Mississippi told BigGoldNation.com last week he's sees a good future in Bruce at the college level.
"I played on that level," Welsh said. "I could see that his level of ability was higher than mine and it's higher than some really good players that I played with and against."
Over the past two years Bruce has began to grow into his big frame.
"He's 6-foot-5 right on," Welsh said. "He's going go get bigger, his dad is a big man. I've seen him put on 20 pounds in the last year and a half and he just got faster."
The Cowboys received a second commitment this weekend from Notre Dame High School wide receiver Chris McNeill who visited Laramie with Bruce on Saturday.
McNeill had several PAC 10 schools recruiting him during the summer, though finally a solid D1 offer went the wide receivers direction, no less in a spread offense to benefit his skills. McNeill committed right after his visit on Saturday.
