DE Lewis plays waiting game
At one time Rochester (N.Y.) Bishop Kearney defensive end Jerome Lewis said that he wanted to make an early decision.
That no longer seems to be the case. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound lineman is up to five offers and believes more should be coming in. That has introduced more confusion into the recruiting process, but it has also given him more options to choose from.
He's not planning on that early decision anymore.
"It'll be just whenever I feel like I have enough (offers) so I can make a choice and feel like it's not a mistake," he said. "It might be next year, it might be this year. I don't really know. I was telling people, 'It's gonna be early,' but I don't think so anymore."
Lewis said he will not be able to take a trip to Rutgers this summer that he had once planned on making. He would, however, like to visit Florida -- a school that has invited him down.
He has been busy devoting attention to the recruiting process lately.
"I actually went up to spring ball at SU (Syracuse)," he continued. "That went well. NC State started talking to me, too. They told me they're gonna try to come up (in May)."
Lewis holds offers from Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue, Syracuse and East Carolina. He said Virginia Tech's coaches have told him they will be offering at some point in the near future.
"Everything's pretty even. I'm keeping it even for all the schools 'til I feel like I've got enough offers to start narrowing it down.
"I do like Pitt a lot," he admitted. "That's because they've been showing me a lot of love since my junior (season). They were the first school to offer, so of course I've got something in my heart for Pitt. But it's an even playing field. Also, now with NC State coming in, that's a school I've looked into and really like."
