Florida WR has praise for Ducks
He's one of the most coveted high school receivers in the nation. He's big, he's fast and his film speaks for itself, but maybe what's most impressive about Ivan McCartney is his attitude. Asked what he thought he did well, he responded by saying he'd rather talk about what he wants to improve.
McCartney's already known as a receiver who's more polished than most. In particular, his route running and toughness have stood out this spring at the camps he's attended. But still, he's focused on being able to do more. "I think I need to get bigger and I need to improve my strength,' said McCartney, 'to add some weight and overall strength. I work out with my teammates six days a week, three to four hours a day. Some in the weight room and some on the field.'
That's the kind of work ethic that will get it done. In the meantime he still has to pick a school by next February. "I'm taking my time with everything I letting my coach handle everything so I can focus on school." One report listed McCartney's top five as Miami, Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, and West Virginia, but he said he really hasn't made an official list. "I'm just real open-minded right now. I don't' really have a top list. It'll be based on a lot of different things. Coaches experience, how long they've been there, how long it looks like they'll be there, the education, the relationship between the players and the coaches, all of those things. I'd also like to have the chance to play early but the relationship between the coaches and players and the education are the most important things." McCartney says he's interested in majoring in business management.
