Oregon State commit Starks is soaring
Coming off of Oregon State's College Basketball Invitational Championship and a signing class that was ranked 21st by Rivals.com, it is easy to forget that the Beavers already have a top tier prospect committed for the 2010 class. Chicago (Ill) Whitney Young point guard Ahmad Starks has been having a tremendous season with the Illinois Warriors AAU team. BeaverBlitz caught up with Starks recently to talk about his season and recruiting.
"The season is going real well like I thought it would," Starks said. "I'm feeling good about my game and my teammates. I'm just feeling really confident right now."
The Illinois Warriors have been traveling around the nation playing against the best teams in the country, and they are finding a great deal of success. In large part due to the play of Starks, who has led his team to two championships and one runner-up finish over the past three tournaments.
In mid-April, Starks and his Warrior teammates won the Real Deal in the Rock championship in Arkansas. Starks was named MVP for the tournament. A week later in Merrillville, Indiana, Starks once again was named MVP in the Nike Spring Showdown tournament after helping his team win the championship with a season high 30 points in the final.
This past weekend, Starks helped his team reach the finals of the Spiece Run N' Slam in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they fell short 56-55 to a talented All-Ohio Red squad.
According to ChicagoHoops.com, Starks 'can flat out play. His recruiting stock is soaring right now.' So how where does that leave Oregon State?
