Powder Springs guard sought by Georgia hoops powers
McEachern point guard Trae Golden is a four-star point guard from Powder Springs and the two biggest schools in the state are battling for his attention. Golden is in no hurry to commit anywhere, but he will probably have some major offers before the conclusion of his senior season.
"I don't have any visits set for this summer, I am going to take my official visits during my senior year coming up," he said. "I really don't have a timeframe on a decision. I am going to the Adidas nations and the NBA camp later this summer."
As Golden makes his way around the basketball circuits his stock will continue to rise. One perennial basketball powerhouse tops his current list, but they have not offered a scholarship yet.
I really do not have a top school right now but I really like Arizona State a lot. I am wide open pretty much," he said.
Instate is where a showdown between Georgia and Georgia Tech will likely occur for Golden's services. The Bulldogs have qualities Golden likes.
"Georgia contacted me about a month ago and they came up to the school," he said. "I've always like Georgia because its home town and they have great fans."
The Yellow Jackets have family tie-ins for Golden as well as a great basketball player, Derrick Favors who is a close friend.
"I talk to Georgia Tech some and they are about the same as every other school recruiting me," he said. My older sister went to Georgia Tech and graduated from there. I grew up around Georgia Tech and my good friend Derrick is going there, so we keep in contact. I have offers from both Georgia and Georgia Tech."
Over the summer, Golden is going to focus on improving his defense and perimeter shooting before his senior season starts in November.
"My strengths are being able to get to the line, penetrate and get it to the open man," he said. I worked on my three pointers a lot. My weaknesses are keeping my man in front of me and mostly defense."
