Boisture is a Spartan
Mike Farrell
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Saline, Mich. quarterback Joe Boisture always wanted a Michigan State offer. So when the 6-foot-6, 202-pounder started thinking that the distance between Michigan and Boston College, where he had committed in March, was too far he reached out to the Spartan coaches to see if they were interested. A few days later, he's a Spartan.
"I started to think that Boston might be too far, that I didn't want to be that far away from my family," said Boisture. "This wasn't the first time I've had second thoughts. So my dad reached out to the Michigan State coaches, I went there the other day and worked out and they offered me. They told me that they were taking only one quarterback this year and it was first come first served so I had to jump on it. It was a tough decision because I loved Boston College and the coaches, but it was just too far away."
Boisture is ranked as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the country by Rivals.com and rated ahead of fellow Michigan signal-callers Devin Gardner and Robert Bolden. He apparently beat Bolden to the punch as it was rumored that Bolden was going to commit to the Spartans as early as next week. Now it appears that Bolden could be headed to Penn State.
"I knew Michigan State had options and I knew Robert was interested so when they offered me and told me they wanted me to be their guy, I moved fast," he said. "This all happened so fast. It was like two or three quick days and a lot of thinking. But I think I made the right choice."
The decision comes on the heels of Boston College taking Maryland quarterback Joshua Bordner as well as taking former minor-league pitcher and former Pennsylvania quarterback Dave Shinskie.
"The quarterback situation didn't play into it," he said. "I knew BC was taking another quarterback, they were up front about that. And when their starting quarterback (Dominique Davis) was kicked off the team, they went on the baseball player. They'll be fine, they'll get another good quarterback. I have nothing but good things to say about the BC program."
As a junior, Boisture threw for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns.
