Timbers reflects on commitment
Pittsburgh (PA) Woodland Hills running back Dom Timbers had a tough time getting his high school football career off and running. During his sophomore year there was an injury and his junior season he missed his first four games. Timbers may have fallen under the radar and into the hands of the Syracuse Orange.
When exactly did the 5-foot-10, 185 pound Timbers realize Syracuse was the right choice?
"Yesterday when I went up there, my coach took the five guys from my school that they are looking at. When I was there I saw the facilities and talked with some coaches," Timbers said. "It felt good for me when I was up there, so it felt like it was a good place for me."
When he committed to the Orange there might have been some extra motivation from the Syracuse coaches. That extra motivation might have come in the form of early playing time at the Big East school.
"They told me if I was to commit today, solid I would definitely be starting special teams kick returner and punt returner. I love doing that."
His position at Syracuse will not just be returning kicks because he has the ability to play on both sides of the ball.
"Besides being a returner Syracuse is looking at me for cornerback and running back."
As mentioned above Timber did not have an easy transition into high school football as he was kept off of the field because of an injury and a transcript issue.
"My sophomore year I tore my ACL and I missed my whole sophomore year. I was supposed to be the starting running back at Central Catholic, but I tore my ACL and then I came to Woodland Hills. I had to sit out the first four games because of transcripts did not come in yet."
Now almost two seasons removed from the ACL tear is Timbers ready to compete without any issues?
"It is no problem at all. It does not hurt, it does not crack it does not give me any problems."
With all of the obstacles the Keystone State prospect has overcome it has made him a stronger running back and a player the Orange faithful will be proud of.
"I am a leader and somebody who is not selfish. I am also someone who pushes the team a lot."
