Daniels looking for a three-peat as 2009 season begins
Texas commitment and Houston St. Pius X defensive end Greg Daniels is ready.
The 6-4, 242-pound end has been hard at work with his teammates and now it is time to collect on the blood, sweat, and hard work put in during the summer months.
"It hit me again that its football season and I'm ready to play and compete for a state championship," Daniels said. "I need another one. I have two right now so all I need is one more for three."
Daniels and his teammates have been working hard to prepare for that title run, which begins tonight against Houston Westbury, and two-a-days have been very successful.
"It was like we came together as a team and now we're finally here," Daniels said. "We've worked through two-a-days and we're going through what we've been doing for every game. We've been practicing really hard."
There may be title talk but don't think St. Pius X will be overlooking anyone.
"We just take (each game) like it's the last game of the season and never take it for granted," he said.
Daniels has also taken his role as a leader to the next level. Setting the example and trying to help his younger teammates pick up their assignments. He also has a few goals for himself.
"My goal for the season is to double my stats from last season and try to do better than what I did last season," Daniels said.
"Last year I was kind of iffy about (defensive end). I didn't know the position well. All I played was tight end going against the d-end but now I've figured out what that tight end is going to do. Knowing what the offensive line is going to do gets easier as time goes now. It feels a lot more comfortable now."
Daniels is focused more on defensive end but do not be surprised if Daniels continues to see time at tight end thoughout the season.
On the recruiting front Daniels is keeping in touch with fellow Texas commit Connor Wood and said he may take an unofficial visit to Texas for the UL-Monroe game.
