LSU loss a vital lesson for Thorpe
It's a play most Auburn fans would like to forget.
But Neiko Thorpe can't forget it. And doesn't want to.
It was the fourth game last season as Auburn and LSU, both undefeated and Top 10 teams at the time, battled it out at Jordan-Hare Stadium. AU held a 14-3 halftime lead and had just knocked LSU starting quarterback Andrew Hatch out of the game with a concussion.
Facing a 3rd-and-10, then-redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Lee dropped back to pass and released the ball just before being hit by blitzing linebacker Spencer Pybus.
Thorpe, a true freshman playing in only his second SEC game, was in man coverage against then-junior receiver Chris Mitchell, who slipped past Thorpe on a post pattern for a touchdown. LSU would go on to win the game 26-21.
