CMU commits shine on the gridiron

ChippewaCountry.com Taking a look around this week's prep football results and keeping tabs on the players who are currently committed to Central Michigan.
DL Andy Phillips, Waverly -Waverly lost their third game in a row as they fell 41-14 against Mason. Phillips recorded 11 tackles and was also the team's punter, but did not play on offense. He told ChippewaCountry he is about 70% right now due to a nagging shoulder injury.
QB Cody Kater, Montague -Kater and Montague continued their dominance in a 62-12 victory over Hart. Kater played only limited minutes do to the score, but still made his mark as he ran twice for 66 yards and 2 TDs, and completed 2-5 passes for 82 yards and 2 TDs. And to answer the lingering question, yes, every time he completed a pass or ran, he scored a touchdown. Montague is now 3-0 and still charging for a Division 6 championship repeat.
LB Nores Fradi, Dearborn -Dearborn dropped their first game of the season as they fell to Dearborn Ford 27-12.
S Steven Bell, Detroit Cooley -Cooley was victorious over Detroit Pershing 20-6. Bell had an 85 yard kickoff return and plays quarterback/safety for his team also. Cooley is now 1-1 on the season.
DL Kevin Henry, Morris (IL) -Henry tallied 11 tackles and 3 sacks as Morris beat a previously undefeated LaSalle Peru team 32-25. Henry also anchored a solid rushing attack on the offensive line.
WR Montrel Robinson, Southfield Lathrup -Lathrup defeated Troy Athens 39-7 to improve to 3-0 overall. Robinson only caught one pass for 6 yards, but made a big play on the ground as he recorded a 70 yard touchdown run. He also had two kickoff returns for a total of 71 yards and played safety on defense.
OL Kent King, Gladstone -Gladstone improved to 3-0 as they defeated a tough Negaunee squad 12-8.
RB Ben Brown, Romeo -Romeo lost to perennial power Macomb Dakota 33-17. Brown rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and also completed a 46 yard pass. He also punted (including a 58 yard boot) and returned one kick for 34 yards.
RB/LB Tyler Lombardo, L'anse Creuse -The Lancers took a tough loss as they fell to Marine City 47-12
DE Caleb Southworth, Piketon (OH) -Southworth caught three passes for 47 yards and a touchdown as Piketon picked up their first win of the season, topping Northwest 19-7.
DE/TE Joe Wirth, Utica Eisenhower -Eisenhower suffered another heartbreaking loss as they fell to Chippewa Valley 14-13.
WR Jonathan Taylor, Inkster -Taylor and Inkster had a bye week.
Other CMU Targets
RB Chris Robinson, Ovid-Elsie -After his record breaking junior season, Robinson is picking right off where he ended last year. After rushing for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns in Ovid-Elsie's opener against Portland, Robinson responded with 120 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries in a 49-17 win over Bullock Creek.
CB Wayne Pettus, Melvindale -Melvindale improved to 3-0 as Pettus delivered his best game yet. He had 37 yards receiving, 94 yards rushing and two touchdowns on offense (one rushing and one receiving). Just for good measure he intercepted a ball and took it back 90 yards for a touchdown.
