While certain areas of the defense looked better, others still are a work in process. Although Cincinnati QB Tony Pike was quick to get the ball off, the defensive front has yet to create the tenacious pass rush that the Beavers have used in years past.
The defensive line was led this week by tackle Stephen Paea, who tallied five tackles in the loss to the Bearcats. What is disappointing however is that the five defensive ends in the rotation accounted for only 2 tackles, 3 assisted tackles and .5 tackle for loss the entire game. Passing teams are going to put up big yards if the line continues those statistics as Cincinnati showed on Saturday.
