Tigers coming together as a team
Auburn's not the most talented undefeated team in the country. Heck, they're still not in the Top 25. But each and every week, Gene Chizik's first Auburn team is finding ways to win.
They did exactly that Saturday night in Knoxville, holding on for a 26-22 win to move to 5-0 on the season.
"It was just a great way to come in here and find different ways to win the game and it was awesome to see our kids faces after the win," Chizik said.
Almost 10 months ago, Chizik inherited a team in disarray coming off a 5-7 season. But in that first meeting with the team, he promised that things were going to change and Auburn would return to its winning ways.
He's definitely delivered on that promise. And senior defensive end Antonio Coleman was quick to credit Chizik foe the turnaround following the big win over the Vols.
"Most people doubted his hire but I believed in him and that's why I came back," Coleman said. "And I believe in all the coaches he's hired. All the coaches and everyone around Auburn are just bringing back that family atmosphere and it's been great for us.
"All the coaches, their families and the players -- we've just come together as a big family. That's what you want to play around."
Chizik could sense that closeness on the sidelines.
