Hawkeyes land Michigan LB

If linebacker is the top priority for Iowa in the 2010 recruiting class, which early on it appears to be, then the Hawkeyes are off to a great start. Today, the Iowa coaching staff landed their second player at the position when Michigan linebacker Austin Gray made the call to give them his verbal commitment.

Gray just returned home from a visit to Iowa City this past weekend. It was his second trip to see the Hawkeyes in the past four weeks and convinced him that even though it is a little farther from home, it is where he feels the most comfortable.

Along with Iowa, Gray held scholarship offers from Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Illinois, Indiana, Central Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan. After narrowing his choices down to Iowa, MSU, and Pitt in recent weeks, he made his decision today and called each of the schools to let them know.

As a junior at Warren Fitzgerald High School, Gray racked up 97 tackles and 9 sacks playing middle linebacker, which is where Iowa also projects him in college. With in-state prospect James Morris already committed as a weak side linebacker, the Hawkeyes are well on their way to filling their needs at the position in 2010.
