Hill hopes to shine against the Dawgs
For freshman wide receiver Stephen Hill the Georgia-Georgia Tech game might be the biggest game of the year because like many Yellow Jacket players Hill's final decision on where to go came down to the two instate powers. Over the last few weeks Hill's role in the Tech offense has become more prominent and he caught his first career touchdown pass in the Duke game.
"My emotions are huge not just because of what happened before I signed, but also because of the rivalry game," Hill said. "We had rivalry games in high school football and basketball sometimes even running track, but this takes it to a whole other level. The stadium will be packed full of people on national television in prime time. It is a big thing."
After having several big plays this season, Hill is hoping that he has an opportunity to make a play that will help the Jackets pull out a second straight victory against Georgia for the first time since they won three straight in the series from 1998 through 2000.
"It would mean a great deal to me to get my moment to shine against Georgia, but I am just out here to help out the team," Hill said. "That is the biggest thing."
With the ACC Championship game Clemson rematch looming on the horizon, Hill does not expect his team to lose focus this week or next week because head coach Paul Johnson is keeping them focused on their team goals rather than specific individual moments of glory.
"It is like coach Johnson says, 'every week gets better.' This is a big week, next week will be even bigger because of the ACC Championship," Hill said.
On Saturday, Hill expects the play of both himself and his teammates to do all the trash talking necessary in this heated rivalry.
"We have not had many conversations (with UGA players), but I said what's up to Michael Gilliard, but other than that I have not had any one-on-one conversations with Georgia players. My play will do my talking," he said.
