Brown focused on junior season
Brenham (Texas) defensive tackle Malcolm Brown is in the middle of his junior season for the Cubs, but earlier this week he further solidified his future on the college level with the addition of an offer from Texas Tech.
"I've been talking with them for a while," Brown said. "We had a connection in the beginning through Derek Edwards. That's how it started. Then they offered me recently so I was excited about that."
"I've been talking with Coach Sam McElroy. He seems like a good guy and a pretty straight up kind of coach. We're still working on that relationship, but it's been good so far. I'm hoping I can get to one of their games before too long."
Brown has yet to take any visits, and doesn't have any scheduled to this point. Don't expect any to materialize soon either. His team is the priority for the 2012 standout.
"Right now I'm focused on my team and my teammates. I'm trying to give them one-hundred percent of my energy. I want to give them all I have, so I really haven't even thought about where I'd like to visit or anything like that."
The 6-foot-1, 270-pound prospect lists Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas, and Oklahoma as the programs he's hearing from most. Brown is not looking too far ahead, however. His sights are set firmly on the season at hand. The process of narrowing down his options will be in full swing once the season concludes.
"During the season I'm going to be focused on only that. I've got to get the job done here so I'll have the opportunity to play at the next level. So that's my focus right now," he said. "I'd like to seriously think about making a decision in the offseason. I want to have my recruitment out of the way in time for my senior season, so I'm hoping to be able to decide sometime after this year."
In addition to Texas Tech, Brown also holds an offer from Texas A&M. He's also been shown interest by Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rice, TCU, and Texas.
