Spring Preview: The Defensive Line
OUTGOING PLAYERS: Keyunta Dawson, Dek Bake, Chris Hudler, Ken Scott, Seth Nitschmann, Dan'Tay Ward
2006 SEASON STATS: (Dawson, Bake, Hudler, Scott cumulative-229 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, 18 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries)
MOST DIFFICULT QUALITY TO REPLACE: Take your pick. Dawson's work ethic, Bake's toughness, Hudler's competitiveness, and a whole lot of productivity from them all.
THE STARTERS: NG, Richard Jones; DT, Rajon Henley; RE, Brandon Williams; SE, Jake Ratliff
THE COMPETITORS: NG, Brian Jones; DT, Britton Barbee; DT, Clint Stoeffels; RE, Tyler Yenzer; SE, Sandy Riley; DE, Phillip Jones; DE, Sean Estelle
THE OUTLOOK: Tech's defensive line situation closely mirrors the offensive line. The loss of key players is mammoth, the prospective starting lineup is plenty talented, and depth is just this side of frightening. Adding to this shaky situation is the d-line's extreme youth. Three of the projected starters for 2007 are true sophomores.
