Nose guard Brandon Thompson made his second unofficial visit of the spring to Clemson on Saturday to take in the Tigers' Spring Game.
"I enjoyed the game and left right after," Thompson told Tigerillustrated.com Saturday evening. "I went with another football player from my team and my dad, George. We got in around 11:30 in the morning. It was a long day because we had prom the night before."
Did the 6-foot-2, 285-pound standout from Thomasville (GA) leave with anything changed to his leaderboard?
"I pretty much have my mind made up," he admitted. "I'm looking to commit (to Clemson) sometime near the beginning of the summer."
What stood out to him on his recent trek to Pickens County?
"I enjoyed the game, a lot of fans came out and supported the team," the defensive tackled said. "There were more people there than there was at Florida State. I enjoyed the coaches. They made me feel welcome. I like the school and can see myself there."
Thompson met with all of the Tiger staff and noted that the head coach and the coach directly responsible for recruiting him stood out.
"(Tight ends) coach (Billy) Napier was real nice and said that I need to jump in the boat," the big man entailed. "Coach (Tommy) Bowden wanted to know what was going on. How I was doing in school, how life was going of late and who else offered me."
Alabama recently provided a tender. Duke has as well and Florida State could soon be in line to join the fray for the Peach State product.
"Thursday night (the Crimson Tide) offered," the interior mauler added. "I'm going up there next week to check it out. Florida State is going to come up and see me during spring practice."
Thompson recorded 51 tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles and nine tackles for a loss for Thomasville (5-6) as a junior.
His max bench press currently is an impressive 385 pounds and he has a 600-pound squat.
He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds.
Also, Thompson boasts a 3.3 GPA.
Tigerillustrated.com first discovered the talented defensive front man at February's Nike Combine in Atlanta, Ga. Entering that combine Clemson had shown the most interest, and not too long thereafter ramped up its attention in Thompson.
The Tigers are expected to take no less than three defensive tackles in the 2008 recruiting class.
