Georgia LB set to visit Ole Miss
Ole Miss was not recruiting Georgia linebacker Jason Jones, but the hiring of Tyrone Nix as the Rebels' new defensive coordinator has changed that.
Jones, from Westover HS in Albany, Ga. has been recruited by Nix since last summer and now Nix has Jones set to visit Ole Miss on Saturday.
"I've been talking with coach Nix for several months and we just developed a good relationship," Jones said Thursday afternoon. "He came and watched one of my playoff games and I just know that he'd been a good coach to play for."
Jones, a 6-foot-2, 225 pound middle linebacker prospect, was clocked with 4.7 speed at the Athens Nike Camp last year, but has recently been recorded in the 4.5 range.
Jones has offers from Ole Miss, South Carolina, Louisville, and Georgia Southern. He's also being recruited by Auburn.
"Auburn is supposed to be coming by to visit," Jones said. "I'm being recruited by coach (Hugh) Nall, but coach (Steve) Ensminger is coming by."
Jones was scheduled to visit South Carolina last weekend, but the trip didn't materialize.
He says he'll visit Louisville on Jan. 28 and has no other visits planned, but he remains interested in Auburn.
Jones admits he doesn't know a lot about Ole Miss other than Nix being the defensive coordinator.
"It's the SEC," Jones said. "I'm looking for educational opportunities and to be on a team for four years where I'm taken care of."
Jones played both ways for the Albany team - racking up 154 tackles (includes 66 assists), two interceptions and two touchdowns. Playing tight end, he had 15 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
Jones says he has a GPA in the 2.6 range and made a 780 on the SAT about a year ago, and is planning to re-take it later this month.
