Martinez yet to grab Ohio State offer
Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood offensive lineman John Martinez has maintained that his top four school choices currently are UCLA, USC, LSU, and Ohio State.
While all four schools remained in his top four, and nothing has changed for weeks, Martinez said there as been some fluctuation in terms of their order on his list, due to a few different reasons. In terms of his interest in Ohio State, it is still there, but Martinez has yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes.
"Ohio State hasn't given me an offer yet," Martinez said, "but if they do then it will make me rearrange my stuff."
As encouraging as that may sound for the Buckeye faithful, a lack of an offer to Martinez may have them steadily moving down his top four.
"Since Ohio State hasn't really offered me yet I am leaning more toward UCLA and USC," Martinez said. "(If Ohio State gave me an offer) that would put them right in the middle."
Though Martinez has been holding out for an Ohio State offer, he cant help but get uneasy waiting for a scholarship offer when other schools have already done so. Of his top four, Ohio State is the only school that has yet to send an official scholarship offer Martinez's way.
Martinez has been in steady contact with Ohio State offensive line coach Jim Bollman, but the two haven't spoken for a while, according to Martinez.
"Sometime this month I should be hearing from (Ohio State)," Martinez said. "I am trying to be as patient as I can be waiting for Ohio State to offer, but at the same time I may just rather lean on USC and UCLA."
With Ohio State's already packed class, it may not be as easy for them to send out offers. Through conversation between Martinez and Bollman, that is exactly what was conveyed to the lineman.
"Bollman said that it may be a possibility but that he has to hear from two other guys before they give me an offer," Martinez said.
Meanwhile, Martinez said he is still in constant contact with both USC and UCLA. As of right now, though things can still change, Martinez said his current top four in numerical order is USC, UCLA, Ohio State, and LSU.
In terms of LSU, Martinez said they haven't been in contact with him at all and he "isn't sure if they are still interested" in him.
"LSU in kind of reeling off a little bit," Martinez said. "I haven't really heard from them at all."
Before Ohio State fans get uneasy about where the lineman may be headed, Martinez said he wasn't planning on making a decision until after his senior season.
In between now and then, Martinez has official visits to both USC and Ohio State lined up. Martinez will see the Buckeyes twice, as his official visit to Los Angeles will be when the Trojans host the Buckeyes. Then, at the end of the season Martinez will take a trip to Columbus to see Ohio State host Michigan.
For now, Martinez feels like he has a top school.
"Right now, USC is probably my favorite," he said.
