Florida State was down just three points at halftime but it could have been much worse considering the Seminole offense had managed just 70 total yards, and just 15 through the air.
On the second series of the second half it looked like the offense would come up short again but a roughing the punter penalty on Virginia Tech gave the 'Noles new life. On the very next play, quarterback Christian Ponder got the call from offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher to throw a deep go route to Greg Carr. The result was a 48-yard completion giving FSU first and goal from the Virginia Tech six-yard line.
