Massie stuns Tide, chooses Ole Miss
For months, Alabama and Georgia were considered the favorites for Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy five-star offensive tackle Bobby Massie.
When Massie canceled his official visit to Georgia on Jan. 30, however, it became obvious that there was another player in the race for his coveted signature.
Ole Miss worked Massie as hard as anyone, targeted him as the replacement for departed left tackle Michael Oher, got him to campus for an official visit in early December and quietly became a major factor in Massie's decision.
On Wednesday, at a ceremony in Chatham, Va., Massie committed to and signed with Ole Miss. The 6-foot-8, 335-pounder faked putting on an Alabama hat, put it down and put on an Ole Miss hat instead.
Ole Miss also landed a commitment from Massie's teammate, four-star defensive back Darius Barksdale, a Batesville (South Panola), Miss., product who did not sign a year ago.
Note: We'll have quotes from Massie and Barksdale as soon as they become available.
