CMU Football: Maroon List
Looking for an update on Central Michigan football recruiting? Look no further as the first installment of the ChippewaCountry.com Maroon List does just that. Take a look below to get up to date on ten prospects who are on the CMU football radar.
1)RB LaSteven McKinney, Broadview (IL) Nazareth Academy
UPDATE: McKinney has offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Eastern Illinois. He has CMU as his favorite right now and reportedly ran a blistering 4.42 at CMU's camp. He is headed to Louisville's camp this weekend and may receive an offer.
2)DT Carl Davis, Sterling Heights Stevenson (MI)
UPDATE: Davis has seen his recruitment blow up this summer as schools from across the nation are realizing what CMU did awhile ago, Davis is a tremendously athletic 300 pounder that also happens to stand 6-foot-5. He recently attended Michigan State's camp and solidified his offer with the Spartans. Davis continually mentions CMU in his top schools but it appears for the time being that Michigan State, Iowa and Kansas are the front runners.
3)CB Wayne Pettus, Melvindale (MI)
UPDATE: Pettus picked up his lone offer from Central Michigan at Michigan's camp earlier this summer. The knock on Pettus is his size (5-foot-7, 150 pounds), but everywhere he goes he just makes plays. He won the defensive back MVP at Illinois camp over top rated recruits such as Corey Cooper and Dexter McDonald and was equally impressive at Michigan's camp where he drew rave reviews for his quickness and instincts.
4)S Raheam Buxton, Pahokee (FL)
UPDATE: Buxton's name is not new to the Chippewas as he set a commit date for July 13th to decide between Miami (FL), Central Michigan and Southern Mississippi. Before the 13th however, Buxton abruptly decided to take an unofficial visit to Miami and pushed back his decision. Buxton grew up a Hurricanes fan and his cousin James Jackson played for Miami, so the Chippewas landing him would be a huge get from a recruiting perspective.
5)S Gilbert St. Louis, Plantation H.S. (FL)
UPDATE: The 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete has offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Maryland, Connecticut, Colorado State, Central Michigan, Toledo and Western Michigan and recently said he would like to commit before the summer was over after initially wanting to decide in October. CMU is thought to be in good position with him and his teammate Devon Drane as St. Louis is looking for a school where he can come in and compete for a spot right away.
6)RB Miles Simpson, Simon Kenton (KY)
UPDATE: The three star rated Simpson stands 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds and was considered one of the most physically impressive players at Michigan's camp. He rushed for 2,309 yards and 37 touchdowns last year in leading his team to the 6A state championship game. Simpson holds offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, Purdue, Cincinnati, Indiana, Western Kentucky and Central Michigan. His head coach insists CMU still sits well with Simpson, look for a lengthier update soon.
7)LB Ishmael Thomas, Detroit Renaissance (MI)
UPDATE: The 6-foot-4, 210 pound Thomas recently trimmed his list down to six schools: Indiana, Colorado, Central Michigan, Iowa, Purdue and Vanderbilt. Thomas reports a 3.6 GPA and is looking to major in finance in college. He is currently rated a three star and is set to make a decision before the season starts.
8)CB/S Shaquille Jefferson, Lexington (OH)
UPDATE: Jefferson recently snagged a Central Michigan offer to join his list that already included Indiana, Bowling Green and Toledo. Jefferson has visited CMU already and came away very impressed. He hopes to get his college decision over with by the end of summer and lists CMU, Toledo and Indiana as his three favorites at the moment. He is also being recruited by CMU linebackers coach Mark Elder.
9)QB Malik Stokes, Philadelphia (PA) Northeast
UPDATE: Central Michigan is the lone offer for the three star Stokes at the moment. Ranked to No. 23 pro style QB for the class of 2010, Stokes recently camped at Boston College and may be high on their radar as Saline (MI) QB Joe Boisture decommitted from the Eagles and chose Michigan State. Malik received the CMU offer while on campus for camp and liked CMU a lot. It is unknown how much the commitment of Montague QB Cody Kater to the Chippewas will affect his decision.
10)S Michael Trotter, Milwaukee Marquette (WI)
UPDATE: Trotter has offers from Indiana, Wisconsin, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Illinois State, North Dakota and Northern Iowa. He is also hearing from Vanderbilt, Washington State, Michigan State and Purdue and while he claims he does not have to play at the same school as his twin brother, Marcus Trotter, he clearly favors it. CMU was the first school to offer Michael and the twins are both looking to visit the campus before any decisions are made. Indiana may be the school to beat right now though.
