Christian Ponder suffered a season-ending injury last season in the second half at Clemson. With FSU's 2010 matchup against the Tigers just days away, Ponder's status is again in question.
The 'Noles' senior quarterback re-injured the bursa sac of his throwing arm in the first quarter of Saturday's game against North Carolina. He missed Monday's practice and his status for the rest of the week is day-to-day.
"He went to the doctor and they took some fluid off of it," Fisher said of Ponder's elbow after Monday's practice. "He'll be day to day, we may rest him for a day or so and play it as we did a couple weeks ago.
"I doubt he'll practice tomorrow but he could. We'll have to wait an evaluate him."
Despite suffering the injury in the first half of Saturday's loss, FSU's senior leader was able to finish the game and posted excellent numbers - 24-of-34 completions for 264 yards and three TDs.
The last time Ponder injured his bursa sac against Boston College, he sat out the next three practices but was able to play because FSU had a bye week. This time around, Ponder does not have the luxury of having extra time fto recover. Whether or not he will play on Saturday is still uncertain but Fisher is optimistic that his senior signal-caller will be able to tough it out.
"I don't know how severe it is," said Fisher, who told the press he didn't know about the injury until Sunday. "If the fluid stays off he'll practice, if not we'll give him a day? Knowing him, he'll come out here and practice and do it. It would not shock me to see him at practice tomorrow but it would not shock me if I held him out."
With Ponder missing Monday's practice, sophomore E.J. Manuel took all the snaps with the first team in practice. Last year, Manuel was 3-1 as a starter, including an MVP performance against West Virginia in the Gator Bowl.
