But when the SEC announced the annual Coaches Preseason All-Conference team Thursday morning that's exactly what happened when Georgia's Aaron Murray was voted the first-team quarterback ahead of Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Alabama's A.J. McCarron.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Murray, who was one of eight Bulldogs voted to the squad, was joined by running back Todd Gurley and tight end Arthur Lynch on the first-team.
Alabama placed a league-high five on the first team, while earning seven on the second team, and four on the third team. LSU and Georgia both had eight receive recognition, while Florida and Tennessee had seven each.
Eleven of the 14 SEC schools had a representative on the first-team, while every institution had at least two players named to one of the three units.
