John Smith showed up to registration at the Under Armour All-America
Game wearing a USC
t-shirt. He has talked highly of the Trojans since
his recruitment started and USC has been considered his dream school.
USC has always been the favorite in his recruitment but things got interesting
in recent weeks because Oregon, UCLA and Notre Dame
tried to get more involved but, in the end, the Trojans won out as Smith
committed on National Signing Day.
"The new coaching staff is great," Smith said. "USC has been my dream school since Day 1."
Smith, a 6-foot-1, 207-pound five-star safety, is ranked No. 24 in the 2014
class by Rivals.com and second at his position.
The Long Beach (Calif.) Poly recruit could play safety at USC but there have
also been discussions of him moving to wide receiver. Smith is third in the
California state rankings behind athlete Adoree' Jackson and
all-purpose back Joe Mixon.
Smith discussed the heated rivalry in Los Angeles.
"It is crazy," Smith said. "I love being a part of it. I have a couple of teammates going to UCLA, but Fight On."
