The newest craze in recruiting is the text message. Everyone does it, it's just that some coaches do it better and more often than others. To some it may get tiresome, but that isn't the case with Mesquite (Texas) Horn athlete Mon Williams who enjoys reading the short messages and sees it as a way to get to know the coaches recruiting him.

"Everyone has my number, but not all of them use it, I think it shows something when they do," said Williams. "Coach Drayton sent me one saying something about their stadium, 'Only Gators get out (of the Swamp) alive.' It shows his personality because other coaches send me messages saying they think I could start there. It's little messages. I have fun reading some of them."

In between text messaging, he has utilized his time this summer to work out and run.

"I went to two combines, but I haven't been to any of the college camps. I've been using my time to work out in the morning and run summer track in the evening. I've run a sub 10.5 - 100-meters. My other events are the 200 (meters) and the 4X100 (meter) relay. I ran a 21.5 in the 200 (m)."

Although he's steered clear of summer camps, the 6-foot-1 ?, 192 pound athlete with 4.52 speed has had no trouble accumulating scholarship offers.

"The last time we counted them I had 29 offers. All the Texas schools, Florida, Miami, Colorado, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa and more. I have them written down here."

With that many offers it has become hard for him to start cutting down his list.

"It doesn't matter to me where I go. I start to think about where I want to take visits and I want to go to Alabama, Michigan, Iowa, Florida and other colleges. I don't know about all of them. It's hard to eliminate great schools.

"I like Miami, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Kansas State as the top six. There's some others that I think I would feel comfortable with. I want a relationship with a coach where I feel like I'm not there just to play football."

While some float in and out of his list of top colleges, Florida is mentioned prominently in each update.

The Rivals100 prospect (No. 83) reports that's because the Gators were his childhood favorite and remain a team he watches closely.

"I don't know what it was that got me hooked on them. I think it was because they were on TV all the time. When they would come on I would be in front of the TV cheering for them. I've always been a fan, that's my team."

Last year as a junior he rushed for 1,545 yards and 11 scores. That performance helped to propel him to a No. 11 ranking in the Texas100.

It also didn't hurt that he did a great job representing his state by being one of the top players at the Ft. Worth (Texas) NIKE Camp where he was named the top running back.

The talent evaluators at Student Sports had this to say about him:

"Looked sensational coming out of his breaks and has a great frame to get bigger in the future. Is a smooth, sleek back who appears effortless but eats up a lot of territory with his long strides. Is great in space and made several linebackers look silly trying to cover him."
