Most of the top-ranked prospects in the Pelican State are expected to sign with LSU, showing that head coach Les Miles and staff understand the importance of continuing the tradition of keeping the state's best athletes at home to play college football. The top seven prospects in the state, in all likelihood, will end up in Baton Rouge.
Woods, the nation's No. 2 prospect at his position, committed to LSU early in the process and gives the Tigers another potentially dominant prospect at his positions.
Scott is an impressive running back prospect who has NFL potential at his current position and potentially linebacker.
Mitchell, who made his debut in the Rivals100 this month, is the state's top all-around athlete. He is set to announce his college choice today and it is expected to be LSU. He will give the Tigers a big-time playmaker at the receiver position. One potential snag for Mitchell shining in Baton Rouge is major league baseball. He could be a fairly high pick and chose to turn pro in that sport in lieu of college.
Running back Richard Murphy of Rayville and wide receiver Chris Mitchell of Marrero John Ehret round out the top five. Murphy already has committed to LSU while Mitchell likely will do the same, giving the Tigers two four-star wide outs with the same last name.
Safety Shomari Clemons of West Monroe is another LSU-bound prospect. He has good lateral movement and could potentially play linebacker.
Ricky Dixon, a wide receiver from Reserve East Saint John, recently committed to the Tigers as well. He checks in at No. 7.
Oklahoma-bound running back Chris Brown of Alexandria could end up being the best running back in the Sooners' class this season.
Destrehan's Jai Eugene showed at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl that he can be a solid cornerback at the next level. There was some concern prior to the event about his coverage skills, but he held his own against the nation's top competition. Eugene will play for Michigan.
The state's top offensive lineman, Zhamal Thomas of New Iberia, rounds out the top 10. Thomas is heading to LSU.
