Big-time visit list for USC game
As the game of the year in the PAC-10 approaches, so does the time for the Oregon program to host some of the top recruits in the nation. Among the official visitors this weekend will include one committed player, one who has previously claimed that Oregon will be his school, a couple big time defensive prospects and a couple of the nation's top offensive recruits from the south. This weekend has been built up on so many levels and now it's here, so Duck Sports Authority brings you an update on each of these visitors.
Committed Player: Chris McCain -6-foot-7, 220-pound LB/DE from Greensboro, NC; McCain, along with teammate James Scales, verbally committed to the Duck program earlier this season and now McCain is headed back to Eugene for his official visit. Chris will be taking in the type of game that he hopes to be a part of many times in his career. After playing last season at North Guiliford High School along with Scales, the two of them have since transferred to Central Carolina Sports Academy in order to finish their academic requirements. Scales plans to graduate early while McCain is looking like a gray-shirt candidate who may in fact become part of the class of 2011.
McCain is a long and rangy player who is surprisingly quick and nimble for a player of his size. In all likelihood, Chris will eventually wind up in the hybrid spot that Kenny Rowe has made a huge part of this Oregon defense.
McCain, along with Scales, fellow visitor Gabe King and another recruit, Keenan Allen, all visited unofficially this summer with one of their high school coaches for the Oregon Football Camp. The group came away more than impressed and that was eventually enough to secure commitments from McCain and Scales. According to Chris, this weekend is, "Another chance to tell me I made the right choice. It is going to be a good time for sure."
Uncommitted Players: This group is full of star power and reaches across the southwest as Trovon Reed and Lache Seastrunk will make their way from Louisiana and Texas respectively. Erick Dargan will be making his 3rd PAC-10 official visit so far this year. Dontae Williams, the four-star running back from Houston, TX will also be making his long awaited official visit. Gabe King, another of the group of players from North Carolina, is now a member of the South Eugene community and will be making it to his 3rd Duck game of the season.
Trovon Reed: Reed is an explosive player who has long had the Ducks on his radar and even named them as part of his "top 4" a few months back. Then the confusion came as he told numerous media outlets that he was down to Auburn and the home state LSU Tigers and that he "needed to be real with the other schools." Now, he is on his way to Eugene for an official visit and that just goes to show you that the staff does not give up on the players they really want and getting a recruit on campus is a huge step, especially for a cross country visit.
Reed is the type of player that can make plays all over the field and the type of player the Ducks need at the wide receiver position. He and Lache Seastrunk are extremely close and have long been thought to want to play their college ball together. To have both of them out here for such a big game is about as good as it gets. The stadium will be on fire and there will be some commits on hand to help answer any questions about the Ducks and their program.
