Tide offers 2013 Fla. DB

The University of Alabama became the latest major program to offer Jacksonville, Fla. safety Nick Washington when UA head coach Nick Saban extended a scholarship to the elite 2013 prospect during his visit on Thursday.

"I was really, really excited when (Saban) told me," Washington said. "We talked about me being a dual sport player, because I play baseball. We talked about academics. He just told me that I was a great player and that he would like me to come play at Alabama.

"Saban and I talked about the success rate of his players. A lot of players get drafted in the NFL from Alabama."

Washington made the trip to Tuscaloosa this week and liked what he saw with everything from the campus to the people he met from the university.

"The campus is really nice and the stadium is huge," Washington said. "Everybody is really straight forward. They don't cut corners or anything. They don't tell you what you want to hear, they tell you what is the truth."

The 2013 defensive back prospect already holds offers from major programs like Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami and South Carolina among others.

Even though Washington hails from the Sunshine State, he said wouldn't have a problem leaving the state for the right school.

"It probably is not going to be that hard for me to leave," Washington said. "Yeah it's not going to be too hard."

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back plans to visit Alabama again but is not sure when. He also wants to come back for a football game in the fall.
