Lewis is learning a new position
For most of Oklahoma's 12 commitments the spring practices prior to their senior year have just been another in a long line of practices in their young football careers. For Oklahoma's first commitment of the class of 2009, Ronnell Lewis, this spring was anything but the average group of practices. Not only was Lewis learning to fill a new defensive role but re-learning to play 11-man football.
During last year's run to the state championship game Lewis starred as something of a hybrid safety, but this year he is going to be right in the heart of the Dragons defense.
"Spring practice has been going real good. We get 10 days of spring practices that are padded," Lewis said. "We've gone through practices and we just got back from a team camp at Werner that we went to. We're all doing pretty good.
"I'm playing middle linebacker, last year I was playing safety in eight-man. Basically I was playing like a linebacker spot. Either I was making my reads and stuff plus we had split outs, I was basically a linebacker last year, to come up and make plays."
