Hillman planning on CSU visit
When San Diego State fired head coach Chuck Long, they also lost the commitment of California athlete Ronnie Hillman. The La Habra running back accounted for better than 2,000 all-purpose yards this season and has parlayed that into scholarship offers from Fresno State, San Diego State, Colorado State and Wyoming.
Hillman, who may play wideout or running back in college, said he rushed for 1,200 yards an caught passes for another 965 this season. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder owns a 4.39 time in the 40-yard-dash. He is also good for 265 pounds on the bench press and 385 in the squat. Hillman said his running style has led to a very flattering comparison.
"I probably sit best in a spread zone offense," Hillman said. Out here they call me the 'Reggie Bush of Orange County,' but I don't really think so."
Hillman has visited San Diego State and will be in Fort Collins on Jan. 16 to take a look at Colorado State. He is also planning a trip to Fresno State and may go to San Jose State.
"I just want to get around to see how other colleges are right now," Hillman said. "I want to see how Colorado is and visit some other colleges. I am still looking."
Hillman said he is still talking to San Diego State as he is close with the receivers coach LeCharles McDaniel and the fact he has been retained is a feather in their cap. He also likes the city of San Diego. Hillman said he respects the straightforward nature of Fresno State.
As for Colorado State, Hillman said he is looking forward to his visit to find out more about the Rams.
"I like the coach that is recruiting me a lot and I like their (Colorado State) football program," Hillman said. "They have a lot of talent there and it is a nice area."
"I want to see the business program and how their academics are," Hillman said when asked what he is looking forward to on his visit. "Their weight program. I want to see how they weight lift and how they play football. If they are an energetic team and a fast-playing team."
In the meantime, Hillman is getting ready for the basketball season. He also runs track in the 100 and the 4x100 with a personal record of 10.7 in the 100 meters.
