Hawkeyes host punter from Down Under

Punter Jonny Mullings grew up in England and moved to Australia with his parents when he was a teenager. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder played rugby for most of his life, but received his first exposure to American football as an exchange student at Ottumwa, Iowa in 2006. After showing a very strong leg playing one year in the states and two in Australia, Mullings is now receiving college interest as a punter. This past weekend, he returned to the state of Iowa for an official visit with the Hawkeyes.

Mullings is older than your average recruit as he is already 21 years old, but still has all four years of eligibility remaining. He is also eligible to enroll at semester, so could start college in January wherever he decides to go. Currently, he holds two FBS scholarship offers and interest from several others.

Since Mullings is not playing football this year, most of his interest has come through video clips and word of mouth in the coaching community. On film (a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/jonnyACT#p/a/u/1/6hqMjaNgrRQ" target="blank">LINK), the left-footer shows great distance and hang-time, plus the ability to kickoff, so it is not hard to see why college coaches would be interested. For Iowa, the connection to the Hawkeye State was already built in as well.

Mullings, who averaged 45.1 yards per punt for his team in Australia last year, would like to decide soon if possible.
