Mr. Awesome may be Mr. Underrated

Every week 2010 defensive back Wayne Pettus continues to prove he is one of the elite players in the state of Michigan. Wayne has led his Melvindale Cardinals to an impressive 7-0 record while performing at a very high level. So far this season, Wayne "Mr. Awesome" Pettus has accumulated over 1000 all purpose yards, seven offensive touchdowns, and three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Recently, Chippewa Country was able to catch up with Wayne to get an update on his recruitment and his impressive start to the season.

ChippewaCountry - So far this season you guys have played phenomenal football. Do you think you guys have a good chance of making it all the way to the State Championships?

Pettus - "Yes I definitely do. If we can keep our heads on straight and stay focus, we will go far this season."

ChippewaCountry - CMU currently has a lot of senior DB's and there is a chance for incoming recruits to play early. Is playing early a factor in your recruiting decision?

Pettus - "Yes, I believe I can contribute right away on any team I go to, whether it's playing DB, special teams, or offense. I want to make an early impact."

ChippewaCountry - Has your play on the field sparked the interest of any more schools?

Pettus - Yes, Syracuse, Iowa, and Purdue are currently scheduled to come to my games this season. I also have offers from Eastern and Western Michigan too."

ChippewaCountry - Last time you informed Chippewa Country that you visited CMU last season. Do you plan on visiting again?

Pettus -"I planned on coming to the homecoming game, but unfortunately I could not make it. Hopefully I will be able to make another visit before the season is over."

ChippewaCountry - Does it bother you that more schools have not offered you because of your size?

Pettus - "No it doesn't. I am confident that I could play anywhere in the country, so I just focus on playing at a high level, and proving that my size does not matter."

ChippewaCountry - Any timetable for when you want to make a decision?

Pettus -"I plan to decide around signing day."

ChippewaCountry - Where does CMU stand with you right now?

Pettus - "CMU is in my top three right now. I have received strong interest from Central, so I definitely have strong interest in them as well."
