McCune's recruitment heating up

On Tuesday, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State coaching staff got off to a strong start in Class of 2011 recruiting when Detroit Southeastern four-star wing Brandan Kearney made a verbal commitment to the Spartans over offers from Michigan, Ohio State and Kentucky.

Now with Kearney in the fold, the Spartans are back on the recruiting trail looking to add more talent to what should be another stellar recruiting class for Izzo and Co. Currently the MSU staff has their eyes on another multi-position player from familiar recruiting territory - Tommie McCune (6-7, 185) of Saginaw High.

SpartanMag.com recently spoke to McCune, who Rivals.com rates a four-star power forward and the No. 87 prospect overall, and he talked about the latest happenings in his recruitment, which is starting to heat up.

While McCune claims just one offer, from Providence, he expects more on the way very soon. In fact, in a recent interview with Rivals.com (10/19), McCune said Providence, MSU and Xavier are recruiting him the hardest, but apparently his recruiting picture has changed dramatically since that report.

"A couple weeks before it was only a couple schools sending me mail, but now everybody is, like one time my mailbox was so full the mailman had to knock on my door and bring it to me," McCune said. "So it's real crazy. Every time my room gets dirty it's covered in college letters. My phone always stays ringing, so everybody is trying harder."

McCune's list of suitors is too long to name, but he did share what programs might be next in line to offer.

"Michigan State has told me that and Xavier has told me that," he said. "I'm trying to make sure I don't forget anybody. Miami-FL has told me that before, and I think that's about it."
