Are the Jackets close to offering 2011 safety?

Mathews (N.C.) safety Mark Bridges has been making the rounds taking in visits from several schools in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, he was in Atlanta to visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. After visiting the campus and seeing the Jackets defeat Wake Forest in overtime, Bridges had a lot to consider.

"I went for a Georgia Tech visit the other day for the Wake game," he said. "It was a pretty good game and I had a great experience. It was a little sloppy, but it was a good game that went to overtime, so that was a pretty big deal."

The staff made a good impression on Bridges and he enjoyed seeing the aggressive style of coaching used by head coach Paul Johnson in the game

"I really like Georgia Tech's coaches and they gave us a nice speech and a tour of all the facilities. We went on the walk they do before the game. It was all pretty good," Bridges said.

Defensive Coordinator Dave Wommack is recruiting Bridges for the Jackets and he gave the safety some words of encouragement after the game.

"The defensive coordinator from Georgia Tech is recruiting me," he said. "They basically told me after the game when we were in the locker room that I was a good player and that I need to keep doing well. They told me to keep everything going."

Bridges did not know a lot about the Jackets prior to his trip to Atlanta and he was very happily surprised by the campus and the proximity to the big city.

"I pretty much loved Georgia Tech and everyone I talked to from the players to the fans that were there and coaches were real cool. They told me about the tradition there and the fans were just going crazy," Bridges said. "When we were walking through doing the Georgia Tech walk it was cool. The fans told me about the program and why I should go there. They let me know if I keep rolling they will offer me soon, hopefully they will keep their word and offer me if I keep doing well. I really like Georgia Tech. I did not know they were right in the middle of Atlanta. I like the location and it is a pretty nice area out there."

After speaking with the coaching staff, Bridges is hoping for a Tech offer soon and if the Jackets offer, they would become his earlier leader.

"A Tech offer would mean a whole lot. To tell you the truth, if I had an offer from Georgia Tech, it would be my number one over East Carolina and Central Michigan," Bridges said.

So far, Bridges has a pair of offers from East Carolina and Central Michigan.

"I just got an offer from East Carolina. I think both Duke and Georgia Tech are close to offering me as well," he said.
Both schools that have offered Bridges are in the running to land the talented safety right now.

"I like Central Michigan a lot and they offered me during a camp in Michigan on the spot. I have not had a chance to visit there yet, but hope to soon," he said. "I really enjoyed my Georgia Tech visit and I like a lot of things about their program. I went to Duke for the Duke-Georgia Tech game and this woman gave me a nice tour there. It is a lot quieter than Georgia Tech, but it is still a nice campus. They gave us details on the academics and Duke of course has great academics."

The Pirates have really stood out to Bridges as well, "I love East Carolina a lot. I watched them play games last year and this year. I just watched them play Tulsa the other day, they did a great job, and I was excited to get an offer from them. Right now, my two favorites are the two offers, and I like East Carolina a little more, but I like both of them. Hopefully more offers will come rolling in."
