Chicago DT still considering Spartans

Michigan State is still looking to add a quality defensive tackle as part of its 2010 recruiting class, and Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita three-star DT Bruce Gaston Jr. remains high on the Spartans' radar.

Monday night, SpartanMag.com caught up with Gaston, who shared that he has been in recent contact with his primary recruiter, MSU offensive line coach Dan Roushar.

"Me and Michigan State have been in contact quite often. I actually just got off the phone with Coach Roushar, we talk pretty often," the 6-2, 290-pound Gaston said. "He came up here for a house visit last week, and I talk to Coach (Ted) Gill and Coach (Mark) Dantonio. I frequently talk more with Coach Roushar because he is my recruiting coach.

"They are in pretty good standing as far as me and my recruiting process. I'm looking to get back out there. Hopefully I can set up a date for my official visit. I don't know when that might be. But it's pretty good with them and my recruiting process."

Gaston likes the Spartans for their consistent approach throughout his recruitment.

"The thing I like about them is that they showed a lot of interest in me early, they stayed honest with me, I like that, and I get along with the coaches pretty well," he said. "And they were one of the first Big Ten schools to offer me."

Now with his senior season over, Gaston is focused on his recruitment. He had his first official visit of the process this past weekend, to Purdue, and he left West Lafayette with strong impressions of the Boilermakers program. Next up for Gaston is a visit to Wisconsin this weekend and then he's off to Arizona the weekend of Dec. 18.

That leaves two openings remaining on Gaston's official schedule.
