Spartans ring Bell in Ohio

Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans picked up another commitment to the class of 2010, when LeVeon Bell of Groveport Madison High School selected the Spartans on Tuesday. The 6-fott-1, 215-pound prospect will enroll at Michigan State in January and participate in spring practice. was able to catch up with Bell and get some details on his recruitment.

Bell, who is rated a 2-star recruit by, has been flying beneath the radar or may recruiting services, but the Michigan state staff has kept a close eye on him throughout the process. This past weekend, they had a chance to host Bell on an official visit and offered him a scholarship.

As is customary, Coach Dantonio and the staff followed up with Bell a few days after the visit and that is when he decided that Michigan State was the place for him. Bell replied to our corresp9onded with him with a simple "Yes Sir" when asked if he was the newest member of the Spartan family.

Bell ended up selecting the Spartans over scholarship offers from Marshall, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan. The Colorado Buffalos were also apparently close to extending an offer.
One of the positives in Bell's recruitment is the fact that he will be able to arrive on campus in January and participate in spring practice. With Glenn Winston, Andre Anderson and Caulton Ray no longer with the program, the opportunity is there for Bell to get some early reps. Bell's size also o make him a possibility of being a short-yardage or goal line specialist as well.

As far as what made Michigan State the place for Bell he offered the following: "The coaches and the people," he said when asked about what the best part of his official visit was.

Bell was hoisted on his visit by fellow Columbus area Spartan Pat White. While on campus Bell was able to meet with the players and the coaches and develop a rapport with them that made his decision a comfortable one.

This past fall Bell rushed for over 1300-yards and scored 24 touchdowns for Groveport Madison High School. For his career he has over 3000 total yards rushing. Bell is also a standout on the basketball court as well. Last week he dropped 22 and 23 points in back to back contest for Groveport Madison.

The commitment of Bell gives the Spartans a total of 16 commitments for the class. Bell will join fellow commitments Nick Hill, Max Bullough and Joe Boisture as early enroll recruits for the class of 2010.
