Welch excited for Oregon State visit
Oregon State and Head Coach Mike Riley are known throughout the nation as perhaps the best staff at finding obscure players and turning them into all-league level players. Coach Riley has done this for years and so it was no surprise when the staff went out to Palm Desert, CA to find a defensive athlete that will be able to come in and play a number of positions on the field for the Beavers. Donell Welch isn't one of the bigger names in California but he has all the qualities that Oregon State looks for in a recruit.
The 6-foot-2, 205 pound Welch has the kind of speed that will allow him to play safety in the PAC-10, but he also has the frame to add some bulk and stay at linebacker, where he shined during his high school career. Whatever happens, expect DJ Welch to make an impact in his time at Oregon State.
Welch will be on hand this weekend with a number of other prospects in order to solidify his commitment and help recruit other players to Corvallis to play their college ball alongside him.
"It's going to be great, man. I can't wait to get up there," said the versatile athlete who committed to Oregon State sight unseen. "I actually leave tomorrow and I'll be there until Sunday. I plan on getting to know the people and the area a little better and then putting in my work to try and get some other top players to join me and keep the momentum going at Oregon State."
