McCarrell talks about Orange offer
Zach McCarrell may have had a quiet recruiting period, but things are heating up for the Florida product. Recently the two star prospect picked up an offer from Syracuse University and that has prompted a visit up north.
"Syracuse is looking at me right now. I am not positive if I am visiting them this weekend or next weekend," McCarrell said. "Syracuse offered probably like a month ago. I thought it was awesome to get the offer. It was actually a relief because I had been talking with them so long."
McCarrell, 6-foot-0, 200 pounds has become very familiar with the Orange program during the process and it has a couple things that the prospect is looking for in a college.
"I like the schools it has good academics and that means getting a good education. It is up north and I actually want to get out of Florida. It just seems like a very good school to play for because the football team is kind of the main thing in the city."
There is one thing that the Sunshine State prospect would like to see on his visit to Syracuse. If he does in fact go this weekend he might be out of luck, but if he changes his plans and visits next week he would be in luck.
"I would love to go and see one of their basketball games. That is one thing I would like is to go school that also has a good basketball team."
The Orange are looking for McCarrell to play in the defensive backfield at strong safety and he thinks it is because of a few qualities he shows on the field.
"Right now they are looking for me to play strong safety," McCarrell stated. "I think mainly because I come down hill and I can hit off of the edge."
Besides the Orange there are a few other programs looking at the prospect.
"Northwestern I talk with a lot and I am hoping to get an offer from them as well. West Virginia, Vanderbilt, and Iowa State also came down to see me and some division one double A's came down. Colorado State has already offered me."
Out of those schools no visits have been set, but he is trying to work out a visit to a Big Ten school.
"I do not currently have any other visits set up, but I am about to set one up with Northwestern."
When it comes to having a time frame for a decision McCarrell does not have one. The future college safety will wait until he knows the right choice.
"I have not thought about a time because I definitely want to weigh my options and take my time so I can make the right decision."
