Video: Appling vs. McCallum

LANSING - Most of the time much-anticipated showdowns between top-ranked teams and top-ranked players fail to live up to the hype. That was not the case at the Don Johnson Field House Saturday evening when the No. 1 Class A team Detroit Pershing squared off against the No. 1 Class B team Detroit Country Day.

Thousands of prep basketball fans flocked to Lansing Eastern to watch two of the top basketball teams in the state and the two stars for each program. Michigan State signee Keith Appling did not disappoint Spartan fans. The Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award frontrunner scored 22 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and also recorded three steals. Country Day star Ray McCallum, one of the top unsigned seniors in the country, was equally impressive. McCallum scored 24 points to lead Country Day to victory.
