Vier makes his official visit
Once Austin Vier received a scholarship offer from Iowa last summer, there was never any question that he would be a Hawkeye, it was just a matter of what position he will play. On his official visit this past weekend, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound Vier had a chance to sit down and talk with the coaches about his future. Find out what they told him and much more right here.
Q: How did your visit go this weekend?
VIER: It went really well. It was a lot of fun. I got to spend some time with the other recruits and talk to the coaches, so it was good.
Q: Who were some of the guys you got to hang out with?
VIER: Brandon Scherff, Mike Hardy, Andrew Donnal, and some of those guys.
Q: Who was your host?
VIER: My host was Eric Guthrie. We went to high school at Nevada together, so that kind of worked out well.
Q: What were some of the things you got to do?
VIER: Well, we ate breakfast at Hillcrest and got to see the dorms and where we'll be eating for the next few years. Then I got to meet with Coach Campbell, the receivers and tight ends coach. I also talked a little bit to Coach O'Keefe on the side. Then I met with Coach Doyle and talked to him about strength and conditioning. After that, I went into Coach Ferentz's office and talked to him a little bit. Then everybody went out to dinner, but I had to go to North Polk for a basketball game and then came back.
Q: In talking to the coaches, is it still quarterback or tight end or what did they say?
VIER: I'm probably going to start out at quarterback and I'm going to give it my all there, but if that's not going to work out then I'll move to tight end. They're pretty cool with the whole situation.
Q: Are you open to whatever works out best?
VIER: Yeah, quarterback or tight end, I'd be fine with either one of those positions.
