Reed receiving plenty of early interest
Canton (OH) Timken Senior tight end Rakim Reed is starting to see his recruitment pick up. As it stands schools from the Big East, Big 10, and the SEC are starting to show him interest.
One of those Big East programs is Syracuse.
"Syracuse has been sending me letters and they have asked me to come down for their junior day."
Reed, 6-foot-4, 205 pounds wants to get up to Syracuse, but he has some prior engagements that may throw a wrench into his plans when it comes to visiting the Orange.
"I am going to try, but my schedule is kind of full right now because I play basketball."
There is still a lot to learn about Syracuse, but at the start of the process Reed is pleased with what he is hearing.
"I like Syracuse it is a good school I would not mind it."
Other than the Orange there are a handful of schools looking at the tight end prospect.
"West Virginia, Michigan State, Connecticut, LSU, Iowa, Iowa State, and most of the Big East schools are looking at me."
With all of those schools showing interest in the Ohio product one school beat them to the punch as the first school to offer a scholarship.
"I have one offer right now from Pittsburgh."
Two other schools could offer soon according to Reed.
"I think West Virginia and Michigan State could be close to offering."
As Reed did mention he is busy right now with basketball, but he was able to schedule one trip around the other sport at this time.
"I am going to Pittsburgh's junior day on the 21st."
During his junior season he was pleased with his overall play on the field, but he did not expect his team's performance.
"The season went pretty decent our record was not what I thought it would be, but I played well. I know I had seven touchdowns and seven sacks."
When it comes to thinking about making a commitment Reed is not close to any decision and he feels his recruitment will last until next winter.
"I have not thought about committing yet, but it will probably be around December. My coach said that I should get more offers and because of that I plan on waiting.
