Williamston (MI) offensive tackle Ethan Wirth gaining momentum

The recruiting race in the state of Michigan is starting to gain momentum and players are in the early stages of separating themselves. This year's race seems to be an interesting one with Michigan, MSU, and CMU all vying for the same kids. In the past CMU was seen as an afterthought for some kids but with the improved stature of the program and the recent coaching change, CMU will be a major competitor for some of the top talent in Michigan.

Most recently at the Michigan Preps Combine in Wixom, ChippewaCountry was able to catch up with Williamston offensive lineman Ethan Wirth. At 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, Wirth has been flying under the radar a bit but is starting to gain attention from some of top schools in the Midwest including Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Michigan State along with Central Michigan.

"I have been hearing the most from Wisconsin and Cincinnati.," said Wirth. "I have also heard from CMU since the coaching change and have talked to Coach Shankweiler quite a bit, he's a really good guy and I like him a lot."

One fellow 2011 prospect Ethan is very familiar with is Jalen Schlachter, whom is a league opponent at Corunna. They have had quite the battles while both playing both ways and next season won't be any different.

"Jalen is bigger than I am right now, but we are pretty similar in strength, I am faster though and move better" said Wirth.

There is no doubt that Jalen is one of the top prospects in Michigan and going up against each other in a small conference is beneficial to both Ethan and Jalen. Ethan was recently part of his schools first ever playoff victory and a heartbreaking overtime loss to eventual state champion Marshall. Ethan and his Williamston team will no doubt be a team to watch in the Lansing area and they are looking to make an even deeper run in next season's playoffs.

The summer time is an important indicator for prospects these days and Ethan in planning on hitting the camp scene hard.

"I am going to camp at CMU, MSU, UM, Cincinnati and possibly Wisconsin. I am also attending the Rivals Midwest Elite Camp and a couple other Rivals functions this summer" mentioned Wirth.
