Mungwa talks Orange offer
Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic safety Shutang Mungwa is receiving a lot of attention in the northeast and he currently holds one offer from Syracuse.
The Syracuse offer is the first to find its way to Mungwa and he was very happy to receive the scholarship.
"They sent me the offer letter on March 6th." Mungwa said. "It was one of the happiest days of my life. I am really thankful for Syracuse for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing college ball."
Mungwa, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds took his visit to Syracuse about a month ago as he was in attendance for the Syracuse junior day.
"I was there [at Syracuse] for the junior day," Mungwa stated. "It was probably the best visit I have had so far."
On his trip the Syracuse coaches stuck out to him, but not because of how they coach now, but their backgrounds before they started coaching.
"It was definitely the coaching staff because they had a lot of guys who played in the NFL, so the knowledge is not just from a coaching standpoint, but a player's standpoint as well. Their weight room and weight training programs seem really good, probably the best I have seen."
On his trip the coaches may have impressed him, but there was one other item that he really enjoyed.
"Definitely being in the weight room was my favorite part of the trip because I am a guy that loves to lift, so being in the weight room and just having the other players talk about the regiment they use and all the results they have seen from past prospects. That was probably the best part of the whole thing."
Once he left Syracuse he kept thinking about the coaches and the weight room that he saw.
"My impression of Syracuse is that they have a great coaching staff a very likeable coaching staff and their weight training and weight room was probably one of the best I have seen so far."
Rivals.com lists the Garden State prospect as a safety, but if he were to pick Syracuse he thinks he could play linebacker or safety.
Other than the trip to Syracuse Mungwa has taken a couple of other visits to a local Big East school and a program from the ACC.
"I have visited Rutgers and Boston College."
Those two programs also showed Mungwa a nice time.
Rutgers: "The Rutgers visit was very good. They had some crazy facilities up there. They are a young team and it seems like these next four years are going to be critical for these next recruiting classes because we could be the next class to take Rutgers to the top."
Boston College: "That was a good trip, unlike the other trips it was smaller and you got a chance to talk with the coaches and they got to know you and you got to know them, so that was a more intimate experience."
