Another offer for Mungwa

Not long ago Syracuse became the first school to offer Shutang Mungwa, a talented New Jersey safety, a scholarship.

Now one of the more prestigious schools on the west coast has jumped into the mix as well.

"Stanford offered me last Friday, I believe," he said. "I guess they had heard rumors about me and decided to check out my film. They liked what they saw. I've talked to the defensive backs coach and the head coach.

"Stanford is great. It's not just an athletics school. It's a great academic school. If I went there I would have a chance to mingle with the greatest minds in the country."

While Mungwa is very high on the Cardinal right now, he's also still very interested in Syracuse, the first school to offer him a scholarship.

"I plan to go to Syracuse's practice on April 16th and then I'll watch their spring game on the 17th as well," he said.

"I went there for their junior day and it was great. At Syracuse I got the feeling that there's a lot of history there, with players like Ernie Davis and Jim Brown. Those guys paved the way for African Americans to play and be prosperous."

Perhaps it's no surprise that the two schools that have offered have the best shot at Mungwa, at least for now.

"I would have a top two of Stanford and Syracuse," he admitted. "But they're in no order."

Mungwa is also receiving attention from Rutgers and UConn, among others.
