Offers piling up for LB Williams
Not too long ago Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway linebacker Armstead Williams was sitting on just a pair of scholarship offers. Things can change very quickly in a short period of time when it comes to the recruiting process.
That's exactly what has happened for Williams. Michigan and Maryland were the first two schools to put offers on the table, but now they have been joined by several other programs that believe Williams would be an asset.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker holds offers from Boston College, Iowa, Indiana, NC State and Illinois, to go along with the two offers he picked up early on.
Though Williams has the athleticism and versatility to excel at multiple positions in the college ranks he is being recruited exclusively as a linebacker, as the consensus is that's where most of his potential lies.
"Tomorrow I'm supposed to be visiting Ohio State," Williams said on Thursday night. "They're supposed to be offering a scholarship to my friend Dondi Kirby. They told me that they have to look at my film more and they're going to wait until the end of my season. They said I'm the kind of player they need to evaluate more, or something like that.
"Next week I'm supposed to be going down to Maryland. On May 2nd I'll be going to Penn State for that NIKE camp and I'm supposed to be going to a camp in Orlando on July 25th. I think I'm going to another one after that."
Though he has no favorites, Williams has a pretty good idea of what he's looking for in a school and he knows what factors will weigh heavily in his decision.
"Academics," he said. "And I like a lot of fans, so the fan base, too. Also, I want to see how a school's campus is and how much exposure I could get."
Williams said he has spoken with coaches from Michigan, Maryland and Illinois.
