May Pump Tourney - Part I
One of the prime events of the spring AAU season is the Pump May Tournament for traveling teams. This event held May 7-9 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Lynwood High, featured 158 games on six courts. Although there were a lot of players performing, only a few were potential UCLA level.
BruinBlitz.com will be focusing in part one on some of the potential elite players at the camp in the class of 2011. Keep in mind that at UCLA will have a very limited number of scholarships for this class and they probably need to go to wings.
1. Norman Powell (6-2) San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln
Powell is well on his way to becoming a household name nationally in recruiting circles. This wing guard is an amazing athlete and a terrific leaper. To top it off, he is a stellar defender and a very hard worker. He could improve his shooting somewhat, but make no mistake, this young man is the Bruin's number one priority for 2011. At this point the word is that UCLA is doing very well with him. He is being personally recruited by Ben Howland and would be a key to reestablishing the program to the highest level. Powell may very well be at the UCLA Elite Camp in late June. When everyone sees him in July, he will be an instant national recruit.
