Wisconsin DT camping with Spartans

Defensive tackle is an important piece of Michigan State's 2011 recruiting effort, and the Spartans have their eyes on Mark Scarpinato of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, Wis.

Throughout the spring evaluation period, Scarpinato (6-3, 250) has been in touch with his primary recruiter, running backs coach Brad Salem, and defensive line coach Ted Gill, and so far he's been impressed with the Spartan coaching duo.

"I've been talking to Coach Salem, he recruits Wisconsin, and we talk maybe once every two weeks. He's been to my school twice and we stay in good contact," Scarpinato told SpartanMag.com Thursday night.

"Last time I talked to him it must have been Tuesday. I think he came in Tuesday to get my transcript. Coach Salem and Coach Gill, the D-line coach, they both really like me, and Coach (Mark) Dantonio just wants to see me in camp. That's what they've told me since the beginning of May when I went there, so I'm really excited."

Scarpinato indicated he will camp with the Spartans on June 19.
